In one of the largest marquee exhibits, a white gate opens on to a huge rotating sparkling globe from which rays of dwarf white hydrangeas radiate. The collection of shrubs, many slightly tender, for which Burncoose is famous surround this and the goblet sculpture and there are intriguing varieties everywhere. The pale pink Delphinium 'Princess Caroline' caught the eye of many visitors, and many would also have ordered Callistemon citrinus 'Red Cluster', a tall and languid bottlebrush, if it were more reliably hardy.
