A whole range of tropical orchids was on show and all grown by amateur members of the Society. These included both ground orchids and epiphytes - those growing on tree trunks; the word "epiphyte" means "life in a tree". One plant, a species of Anguloa (the 'tulip' orchid), received a Botanical Certificate from the judges as testimony to its rarity.
