This western interpretation of a zen garden uses material and plants sourced locally to create a Japanese garden with a western slant. The traditional arch is flanked by venerable bonsais and bamboos, the whole set against bamboo cane backdrop. Rugged stones set in sand flank the view to the arch and the planting features maples, purple heucheras and rounded domes of flowering rhododendrons.
