It’s some years since we had a wave machine in a Chelsea garden, and then there were two. Now another creates waves which lap on a sandy beach with seaside debris, below a timber jetty with a rustic chalet. The point is to highlight the fact that the sun’s summer rays can be harmful, creating sunburn or even skin cancer. So alongside the chalet is a shaded seating area. The plants, from the sheltering trees and shrubs, to the osteospermums, anchusas and variegated and silver grasses are all tolerant of salt spray.
