Helen Mirren to play gardener in film
by Martyn Cox
Prime Suspect actress Helen Mirren has revealed that she will appear in a film about gardening.

Helen has a new film out this summer, called Greenfingers – part of it was filmed at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show last year. It is based on a true story and is about a group of convicts who turn to horticulture and win a flower show Gold Medal.

"I play a posh lady, who is a mad horticulturist," said Helen.

Despite playing a keen amateur gardener in the film, Helen has only recently found her green fingers. "I’m slowly learning; I have a small balcony, where these roses I’m wearing are growing. I got the plant from Chelsea last year," she said.

She said that most of gardening information was gleaned from the radio and not from TV makeover programmes. "I love Gardeners’ Question Time on Radio 4 and wish they did that on TV - it deals with proper problems," she said.
